ATP And Spotflex

Audio Tactile Profiling (ATP) and Spotflex are structured road markings that provide security features to carparks and roads by creating audio and tactile feedback to motorists. These are commonly used for areas of high volume traffic. The use of glass beads to create retro reflectivity can also be applied to this type of marking. During wet weather, the film of water reduces the retro reflectivity of a flat road marking which is why local authorities chose to use ATP and Spotflex.

Our specialist team and equipment use the Cold Applied Plastic (CAP) method to apply this type of linemarking. The application is quick-drying and effectively applies retro reflectivity and anti-skid roadmarking.

In times of wet weather, rain leaves a film of water on flat unstructured road marking which reduces the retro reflectivity of the marking. ATP and Spotflex have raised areas on the road marking to negate the effects of the water film.

ATP is often referred to as “Rumble Strips” which are ridges of CAP across the width of the line marking. These are an effective way to provide audio and tactile feedback to motorists as they are highly visible/audible at night and during wet weather.

Spotflex is similar to ATP but is made up of numerous spots of CAP. The benefit of this application is that it allows for drainage during wet weather increasing the anti-skid qualities of the road marking.
